WINEMAKER'S COMMENTS
This rich and luscious wine exudes intense blackcurrant and brambly blackberry flavours, with spicy, aniseed notes. Twelve months ageing in quality seasoned oak confers a silky smooth texture, giving immediate appeal, or for judicious cellaring to reward over the medium term.
VINEYARD & WINEMAKING
This classic red is a superior blend of 67% Cabernet Sauvignon and 33% Merlot. The grapes were sourced exclusively from our Mere Road vineyards, within the highly regarded Gimblett Gravels region of Hawkes Bay.
Each parcel was cold soaked for one day, followed by inoculated fermentation in stainless steel tanks with twice daily pump-overs. Post-ferment, the parcels were allowed to macerate on skins for an average of six days, when the winemaker deemed the tannins were ideal, the wines were pressed off skins. Still as individual parcels, the wines were transferred to barrel and aged for twelve months in quality
oak barrels (83% French, 17% American) of which 24% was new oak.
