Earlier this month Yealands Wine Group was named as New Zealand Wine Producer of the Year at the International Wine and Spirits Competition (IWSC) held in London. Across the Yealands Family Wines and Crossroads Wine ranges they collected 37 medals, including a gold medal for the Yealands Estate Winemaker’s Reserve Gibbston Pinot Noir 2013 and 3 silver outstanding medals.
Tamra Kelly-Washington, chief winemaker of Yealands Wine Group was incredibly excited to “To be awarded the producer of the year at such a prestigious competition like the IWSC is an incredible achievement. The recognition for such a large range of varietals from our Pinot Noir, Grüner Veltliner, Pinot Gris to our Sauvignon Blanc; is truly humbling” says Mrs Kelly-Washington. “The award illustrates the depth of quality across our entire portfolio; it’s a real credit to our talented team in Marlborough and Hawkes Bay.”
The International Wine and Spirit Competition’s General Manager, Ewan Lacey, said, “Noticed for being one of the world’s few carbon neutral wineries, Yealands is considered to be one of New Zealand’s leading family-owned vineyards. Given that consumers are becoming increasingly concerned with environmental matters, the IWSC judges were impressed that founder Peter Yealands intends for his winery to be the most sustainable in the world.
The pan fried snapper with brussel sprouts, garlic and pancetta – matched with the Crossroads Chardonay 2013 - was one of the first recipes I created for Master Match. It makes a great mid-week meal (especially since there’s only a handful of ingredients!). You can find details of the recipe here: http://www.mastermatch.co.nz/Recipes/WineType/View/RecipeID/23
